How Long Does a Baptism Take?

Baptism Glossary · Tinyfoot Sydney

The length of a baptism ceremony varies depending on the denomination and whether it is held as a standalone service or within a Sunday Mass.

Standalone baptism ceremony

A standalone Catholic or Anglican baptism typically takes between 30 and 45 minutes. Some parishes hold group baptisms with multiple families, which may run slightly longer.

Baptism within a Sunday Mass

When a baptism takes place during a full Sunday Mass, the total service is usually 60 to 90 minutes, with the baptism itself occurring at a specific point within the Mass.

Photography timing

For photography purposes, arriving 15 to 20 minutes before the ceremony begins allows time to document the arrival, the gathering of family, and the atmosphere of the church before the service starts. Tinyfoot always arrives early to get the most complete coverage of your day.
